![]() I've been reading about some of the problems that have been fixed, so I'm hoping mine will work just fine for library books, which it what I mostly read on it. With the Simple Touch I had to buy a book light in order to use it at night, which is nice and bright but is just cumbersome. Anyway, what I'm excited about on the Glowlight Plus is the water-and-dust proofing, as I sometimes take it on trips to very dusty areas, and the glowlight feature. ![]() I had to contact customer service for that and they told me how to do it. You can, but it's not advertised on the website very well. The Simple Touch has been having a few problems lately, which I'm not sure are with it or Adobe DE, so I decided to see if I could trade it in. My Nook Glowlight Plus will be delivered tomorrow, and I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake in trading in my Nook Simple Touch for it. ![]() And I just want to tell people that they CAN borrow library books onto this device with a Mac. I would recommend this nook for the price. I did purchase a cover for it but it adds very little bulk. I felt like I was being accused of something sinister at this store.Īnyway, to finish on an up note, Im blowing through books on my new Nook, and I love it! I also love how it looks and feels. I always get off the phone wishing I got the operator's address so I could send him/her a Christmas card. As much as I hate to see Any one business take over, it's never been anything but pleasant dealing with returns through Amazon. I gotta say tho, it was an extremely uncomfortable interaction, and it makes me want to avoid walking into their brick and mortar store again. I stayed polite and said that I didn't even know what that meant, and that if I am willing to support B&N and hand over a good chunk of hard earned dollars, I don't think I'm being unreasonable to expect a perfectly intact product right out of the box, and where would I be if I had waited longer than the return window and this spot DID become bigger? I seriously debated dropping the exchange and getting my money back, but I do like the device and still want to see B&N succeed. There was an awkward silence, and then she said she would make an exception for me, since I had come to the store but that she would be "flagging" this transaction. The young lady there, while not being blatantly rude told me that the product wasn't defective and that she had seen this before and these "spots" are normal and that this is not something they normally take back a device for, because I just made this Nook "unsellable". Even tho I didn't plan to use this as often in lowlight situations, there will be times that I can't put a book down, and will be using it, plus I wondered if this spot could grow bigger, so the next morning I took it to the store to ask for an exchange. It was right in the center and when the glowlight was turned up, was extremely distracting. It wasn't actually a hole but some sort of spot that seemed to not have the same finish of the rest of the screen. When I got the first nook home and set it up, I noticed a very small little "hole" that allowed much more light thru. The Nook during morning and daytime reading, and the Kindle before bed. Reading in sunny situations has been exceptional on the Nook, and I like that I don't have to worry about a little water spray hitting the device anymore.I also own a kindle Voyage that I adore and prefer it's lighting in low light situations. However, the main reason I bought this device, is for reading when boating, (waterproof)and haven't needed the glow light for that. I don't like the bluish tint and it does have shadows alone the very top of the screen. I can't say that I love the glow light part of this Nook. I have a Mac and had to download Android file transfer app first to allow me to get the books onto my Nook. While it isn't as easy as borrowing a Kindle ebook, it is still pretty easy. I borrow lots of library books thru overdrive. Also, the covers don't show up on the new one! Just a rectangle with the title inside as text.Īny ideas on how to make the new Glowlight Plus behave like the old Simple Touch Glowlight? Does B&N have any plans to bring back the Simple Touch Glowlight? With the new Glowlight, while I *can* read them, the behavior is just like the original Nook (the one with 3G): they not only have to be placed into "files" or "documents" folders, but they only show up if I navigate to the "my files" section of the library and not in "all". The old Simple Glowlight let me just add the epubs and they displayed with the rest of my library. I have a number of (DRM-free) epubs in my calibre library that I would like to be able to read on the Nook. The old glowlight let me just long press the NOOK button and the light turned on. Hopefully, someone can help point me to a workaround.ġ. I just got a new Glowlight (after losing my Simple Glowlight) and there are a few things that really bug me about it.
